[Barnsley, UK, 7 October 2022] – IoT Tribe announced the launch of the latest Internet of Things Accelerator, run in partnership with Barnsley Council, and fully funded by TEAM SY (Technology Ecosystem Acceleration, and Market-Making South Yorkshire) through the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF), Capital Enterprise and Barnsley Council.
The IoT Accelerator is a highly-selective, equity-free programme for IoT startups and scaleups from South Yorkshire and beyond with the ambition to scale-up and enable new efficiencies in industry.
While Manchester and Leeds usually dominate the tech headlines in the north, Sheffield and wider South Yorkshire have been quietly building a tech startup scene to rival the best in the country. The city now employs around 14,750 across 1,135 tech companies, and is home to several cutting-edge technology research centres, all of which contribute to the region’s growing reputation as a thriving place to grow a tech startup.
This is an exciting opportunity for startups from outside the region, to become part of the burgeoning scene of tech and digital start-ups, scale-ups and international businesses that is developing in South Yorkshire, a key component of the larger Yorkshire region which was revealed as the UK’s Startup Hub in 2021[1], fighting off competition from the East and West midlands to claim top spot.
Through a series of intensive capacity building workshops, mentoring sessions, in-person events in Barnsley and London, and the Tech Studios© to scope potential pilots with corporates, the programme aims to help startups and scaleups improve their market readiness, increase their product-market fit, and enhance their market visibility.
IoT Tribe are currently looking for 15 startups and scaleups with market-ready IoT technologies that enable a net zero future, optimise industrial operations, or bolster IoT network connectivity and resiliency to be part of the programme. Startups must register a physical or virtual presence in South Yorkshire to be eligible for selection.
The equity-free programme will commence in November 2022. It will be held in a hybrid format to maximise the impact and engagement of startups and scaleups. Applications are currently open till 19 October 2022.
